HelixTools
POD Go → Helix / HX Stomp guide

Can you use POD Go presets on Helix or HX Stomp?

Yes — with a converter for compatible presets. A POD Go .pgp file isn't the same as a Helix or HX .hlx file, so it can't simply be opened as a native Helix preset. Here's what conversion can do, where it has limits, and how to try it yourself.

Quick answer: HelixTools converts compatible POD Go (.pgp) presets to .hlx files for Helix Floor, Helix LT, HX Stomp and HX Stomp XL. It's useful both when upgrading from POD Go and when exploring POD Go tones on gear you already own.

Important: Results depend on available models, DSP, snapshot capacity and external IRs. The converted preset may need adjustments in HX Edit.

Why use a POD Go to Helix converter?

1. Moving from POD Go?

You've spent time dialing in presets you like. When upgrading to a Helix or HX Stomp, conversion can transfer compatible parameters instead of forcing you to manually re-enter everything.

2. Already own a Helix?

Found a POD Go tone on YouTube or Line 6 CustomTone? With a compatible .pgp file, you can try that tone as a starting point for your own Helix or HX Stomp rig.

How to convert a .pgp preset to .hlx

  1. Start with a POD Go preset (.pgp). Use a preset you made yourself or one you are permitted to download and use. Make sure it's actually a POD Go preset.
  2. Open HelixTools locally. Download the converter after purchase and open its HTML file in a supported web browser. Presets are processed on your own device, without uploading to our server.
  3. Choose your destination. Select Helix Floor / LT, HX Stomp or HX Stomp XL. Review the available block, snapshot and footswitch options for that target.
  4. Convert, download and import. Save the resulting .hlx file, load it using HX Edit, and check the sound, levels, IR assignments, snapshots and switching before using it live.

Supported destinations and limitations

HelixTools currently converts from POD Go to these destinations:

  • Helix Floor and Helix LT: compatible amp, cab and effect settings can be transferred; destination hardware offers a more flexible signal-chain layout.
  • HX Stomp: the converter provides tools for the 8-block limit and lets you select the three snapshots to retain.
  • HX Stomp XL: also has an 8-block limit, but supports four snapshots. Footswitch assignments may need checking after import.

Not a one-to-one guarantee. Some source models may not map identically. Hardware architecture, firmware, DSP and controller differences can change what survives conversion. Listen to the result and fine-tune if needed.

What happens to external IRs?

An external impulse response (IR) is a separate audio file. HelixTools can't embed the original IR audio from a .pgp preset. Import the original IR into the destination rig if you have it, then verify the IR assignment in HX Edit.

Can you use free POD Go presets on Helix?

Yes, if the specific preset is compatible and you're allowed to use it. For example, you can discover POD Go presets in Line 6 CustomTone or from guitarists who share .pgp files alongside their tone demos.

Use HelixTools to convert the file, import the .hlx into HX Edit, and treat the result as a starting point for your own tone. Some models, IRs or assignments may require manual changes.

Remember: a preset offered for download isn't automatically yours to redistribute or resell. Respect the preset author's terms, including for paid or protected products.

Common questions

Can I load a POD Go .pgp file directly into HX Edit?

Not as a native Helix or HX preset. POD Go and Helix/HX use different preset file formats and hardware structures. A compatible conversion is needed.

Will a converted preset sound exactly the same?

Not necessarily. Compatible parameters can transfer, but model availability, IR files, DSP, gain staging and device-specific features may affect the result. Always listen and adjust.

Can I convert presets from Helix back to POD Go with this tool?

Not with the current POD Go Converter. Its direction is POD Go (.pgp) to supported Helix/HX (.hlx) devices.

Does the converter require uploading my presets?

No. The downloadable HTML converter runs locally in the browser and processes preset files on your device.

Is HelixTools free or officially made by Line 6?

HelixTools is an independently developed paid utility, currently $5.99. It's not affiliated with or endorsed by Line 6 or Yamaha Guitar Group.

Less rebuilding. More playing.
